Craneways once housed the hulls and structures of ships under construction
The craneway, nearly 1000 feet in length were once used to build ships, LNGs, supply ships and various naval vessels. On
November 30, 2004, demolition teams set off charges to bring down teh Quincy section of this rusting and outdated
structure. A couple months later, the West portion of the Braintree Craneway collapsed on the turret shop just to the South. 2
workers were killed while removing asbestos.  Lot's of thrill seekers and historians were on hand for this milestone and
significant change in the local skyline, knowing that the Goliath Crane will soon follow. The demolition signified a changing
waterway which has always served the needs of the inhabitants of the community. In the months afterward, cruncher
backhoes nibbled the steel like ants on a cookie, one bite at a time until it was all hauled to the recycler.
