Goliath - The Icon of the Fore River Basin
It's fate is finally unknown, the author had the opportunity to survey the crane face to face before the dismantling. The enormity
of the structure was breathtaking and silence of the day broken only by the sounds of a falcon that nests on the upper deck.
The undercarriage of the crane was surveyed, an engineering marvel now rusting on it's tracks is about to breath again.
The immense size of the crane and the shipyard is felt on a 95° day. The barren land one was screaming with fresh
cut steel plates and the glow of the annealing furnace feeding more than 20,000 workers.

From the undercarriage on the pier.
The elements appear to be winning.
Along the base there are frequent reminders of lifting jigs and scraps from decades of shipbuilding. The echoes of the
whistle blowing across the basin have faded, the memories of the work is not far behind.
