The 1,200 ton
Technically, the entire girder including the 400 ton upper
winch house is still up on 8 - 600 ton jacks, the remaining
power of the Sartower system. A slow jack and lower will
bring the girder down another 13 feet until it completely rests
on the portable trucks called Kamags which are modular
transporters. The 12 modular transporters, each having 6
axle lines totalling 72 axles will travel in unison, maintaining
balance of the load, and essentially pivot and "crawl" their way
across the yard. According to Kamag, Sarens owns more
than enough transporters to move the Eiffel Tower.
The removal of the base of the Sartowers is a laborious task.
Freezing temperatures, snowstorms, ice and rain add to the
hazards of the project.
