The 1,200 ton
Although the high work is done, the job is still dangerous and
a great deal of skill and expertise are at work. To move over
1500 tons of steel, nearly a 40 story skyscrapers worth, you
need to have patience and perseverance. The weather is
starting to be an unwelcome burden. Cold temperatures,
extreme weights and one of a kind work presents challenges.
The next major hurdle will be to traverse the Fore River
Railway on the trek to the barge. The next leg of the journey
will slip the girder between the old General Dynamic
Administration building and the defunct Mass Heavy
Industries space building. Local residents will get the once in
lifetime opportunity to see the Goliath Crane as close as they
will ever see it, for one last time.
