A final chapter came to a close with the final christening at the
Quincy Fore River Shipyard. Just before noon a group of fellow
Ironworker from Local 7, Boston and the rest of the crew paid
tribute to fallen Ironworker brother Bobby Harvey in a topping off
and christening ceremony. Steve "Gully" Gullage spoke before
family and the crew and christened the Goliath Crane the USS
Harvey. An unusually balmy day, he spoke of the brotherhood
and bonds that are special amongst these men of steel. A bottle
of champagne was smashed on the last leg section that was
loaded a couple days ago. "If you show up with your boots tied
every day, you stand a chance of making it in this trade" he
stated later in the afternoon. "There is no light duty work here"
stated Chucky Glavin of Local 7. "We've booked about 35,000
hours, 17 man years" on this project said Greg Nordholm of
Norsar. They have been at it for just over one year.
